Rend the Heavens and Come Down!

1. “A God who truly loves someone must hate what seeks to destroy them.” What are some examples of this kind of righteous anger in your life?

2. How can we explain how our God is both loving (Isa 63:7) and wrathful (Isa 63:3)?

3. There is a tendency in some churches to focus God’s judgement only on the unbelieving world. How does Isa 64:5-7 condemn this way of thinking? [It may be profitable to read GK Chesterton’s newspaper response here:
“When a newspaper posed the question, ‘What’s Wrong with the World?’ G. K. Chesterton reputedly wrote a brief letter in response: ‘Dear Sirs: I am. Sincerely Yours, G. K. Chesterton.’]

4. Do you have a tendency to exempt yourself from judgement over your small and respectable sins while condemning others for theirs?

5. How does Jesus, who rent the Heavens and came down, effect the way we view God’s judgement?
