12.14.25 - Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy

Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - December 14, 2025

Pause to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we share in together as the body of Christ at Sunday morning worship Gatherings.

CONFESSION // ASSURANCE

Leader: Lord, we wait in eager longing, looking to your day of advent. We wait in darkness and in turmoil; in the aches and pains of body, mind, soul––even family, society, and world.

Leader: This waiting is our reality.
CongregationSoul, rest in your season of waiting.

Leader: Lord, though darkness like thick smoke surrounds and light feebly struggles to pierce it, yet deep within your flame of hope burns, warming our gut with courage as we wait on you.

Leader: This waiting is our reality.
CongregationSoul, hope in your season of waiting.

Leader: Lord, our bruised feet are prone to wander, finding rocky shores and scalding sands. Yet in your kindness you guide us to fields of soft grass and cool, clear streams where our souls leap for joy as they wait on you.

Leader: This waiting is our reality.
CongregationSoul, rejoice in your season of waiting.

ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING

Leader: We light these candles as a sign of the coming light of Christ.

Congregation: Advent means coming. We are preparing for the full coming of God’s kingdom:

Leader: Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low;

Congregationthe uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.

Leader: Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,

Congregationand all the people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
In the wilderness prepare the way of our Lord,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
As we await the fullness of God's kingdom, may the peace, joy, and love we've been given through Christ draw us into deeper delight this Advent.

— Isaiah 40:3-5, NRSV

BENEDICTION

Leader: Walk in the confidence of God’s promise,
attentive to His presence,
trusting the One who came quietly, reigns fully,
and will return in glory.
Peace be with you.

CongregationAnd also with you!

Gloria // Names (He Shall Reign)

This playlist is updated each week with songs from the previous Sunday's Gathering:

Song Lyrics:

Joy Has Dawned
Verse 1
Joy has dawned up-on the world, Promised from creation
God’s sal-vation now unfurled, Hope for every nation
Not with fanfares from above, not with scenes of glory
But a humble gift of love, Jesus born of Mary

Verse 2
Sounds of wonder fill the sky, With the songs of angels
As the mighty prince of life, Shelters in a stable
Hands that set the stars in place, Shaped the earth in darkness,
Cling now to a mother’s breast, Vulnerable and helpless

Verse 3
Shepherds bow before the Lamb, Gazing at the glory
Gifts of men from distant lands, Prophesy the story
Gold: a King is born today, Incense: God is with us
Myrrh: His death will make a way, And by His blood he’ll win us

Verse 4
Son of Adam, son of heaven, Given as a ransom
Reconciling God and man, Christ our mighty champion
What a savior what a friend, What a glorious mystery
Once a babe in Bethlehem, Now the Lord of history
Revelation 19:1 // Digno (Worthy)
Part 1
Hallelujah, Salvation and glory
Honor and power to the Lord our God
For the Lord our God is mighty, the Lord our God is Omnipotent
The Lord, our God, He is Wonderful

All praises be to the King of Kings
And the Lord our God, He is Wonderful
