Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - December 7, 2025
Pause to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we share in together as the body of Christ at Sunday morning worship Gatherings.
CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: A light shines into the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it!
Even as we experience pain, loss, grief, and heartache– we are never without hope!
Congregation: Come, thou long-expected comfort!
Come, thou long-expected peace!
Come, thou long-expected joy!
Come, thou long-expected Savior!
Even as we experience pain, loss, grief, and heartache– we are never without hope!
Congregation: Come, thou long-expected comfort!
Come, thou long-expected peace!
Come, thou long-expected joy!
Come, thou long-expected Savior!
ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING
Leader: We light these candles as a sign of the coming light of Christ.
Congregation: Advent means coming. We are preparing for the full coming of God’s kingdom:
Leader: Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low;
Congregation: the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.
Leader: Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
Congregation: and all the people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
Congregation: As we await the fullness of God's kingdom, may the peace, joy, and love we've given through Christ draw us into deeper delight this Advent.
—Isaiah 40:4-5, NRSV

COMMITMENT
Leader: Jesus, You came into our darkness to bring Your light and life to everyone.
Congregation: In You we find rest.
In You we find joy.
In You we find peace.
In You we are known and loved.
In You we are made whole.
Leader: Jesus, Your light shines through the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it. May we be renewed in You this Advent season as we reflect on Your power and holiness, Your humility and gentleness as you entered into our empty and broken lives to revive us with Your light.
Congregation: Revive our hearts again, to rest in You.
Revive our hearts again, to find joy in You.
Revive our hearts again, to be filled with Your peace.
Revive our hearts again, to know Your love.
Revive our hearts again, to the fullness of life we have in You.
We ask this all in the name of Jesus, our God present with us, our Emmanuel.

O Little Town of Bethlehem
Verse 1
O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.
Verse 2
For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond’ring love.
O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth!
Verse 3
How silently, how silently, the wondrous Gift is giv’n;
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His Heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.
Verse 4
O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
Oh, come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!
Ending

King of Kings // Gloria
Verse 1
In the darkness, we were waiting, without hope, without light
Till from heaven, You came running, there was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfill the law and prophets, To a virgin came the word
From a throne of endless glory, To a cradle in the dirt
Chorus
Praise the Father, Praise the Son, Praise the Spirit, Three in One
God of glory, Majesty, Praise forever to the King of Kings
Verse 2
To reveal the kingdom coming, and to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation, You did not despise the cross
For even in your suffering, You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation, Jesus for our sake You died
Verse 3
And the morning that You rose, All of heaven held its breath
Till that stone was moved for good, For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs, and the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come, To the Father are restored
And the church of Christ was born, then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this gospel truth of old, shall not kneel, shall not faint
By His blood and in His name, In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ, Who has resurrected me
