11.30.25 - Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy

Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - November 30, 2025

Pause to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we share in together as the body of Christ at Sunday morning worship Gatherings.

CALL TO WORSHIP

CongregationAll praise and glory be to our God with us, our Emmanuel, our Wonderful Counselor, our Mighty God, our Everlasting Father, our Prince of Peace.

Leader: Jesus, You entered this world of darkness and despair to shine your light, bring your hope and share your love to all.

CongregationCome, let us adore His name!

- Based on Isaiah 9

CONFESSION // ASSURANCE

Leader: Eternal God, through long generations you prepared a way for the coming of your Son, and by your Spirit you still bring light to illumine our paths.

CongregationRenew us in faith and hope that we may welcome Christ to rule our thoughts and claim our love, as Lord of lords and King of kings, to whom be glory always. Amen.

- Advent prayer from the Common Book of Worship

ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING

Leader: We light this candle as a sign of the coming light of Christ.

CongregationAdvent means coming. We are preparing for the full coming of God’s kingdom:

Leader: Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.

CongregationAs we await the fullness of God's kingdom, may the peace, joy, and love we've given through Christ draw us into deeper delight this Advent.

- Adapted from Isaiah 40:4 and the Worship Sourcebook

BENEDICTION

Leader: May the eternal Word who made all things,
the Light no darkness can overcome,
and the God who draws near to us, as He did to Mary, in holy invitation,
strengthen you and fill you with hope this Advent season.
Walk in His light and peace.
Peace be with you.

CongregationAnd also with you!

You deserve the glory

To the one and only, name above all names

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
Verse 1
It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth, To touch their harps of gold;
“Peace on the earth, good will to men, From Heaven’s all gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.

Verse 2
Yet with the woes of sin and strife, The world has suffered long;
Beneath the angel strain have rolled, Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not, The love-song which they bring;
O hush the noise, ye men of strife
And hear, the angels sing.

Chorus
Halle - lujah, our hope is Christ
Halle - lujah, our hope is Christ

Verse 3
And ye, beneath life’s crushing load, Whose forms are bend - ing low,
Who toil along the climbing way, With painful steps and slow,
Look now! for glad and golden hours, Come swiftly on the wing.
O rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing.

Verse 4
For lo! the days are hastening on, By prophet-bards fore - told,
When with the ever circling years, Comes round the age of gold;
When peace shall over all the earth, Its ancient splendors fling,
And the whole world send back the song
Which now the angels sing.
Joy to the World
Verse 1
Joy to the world, the Lord is come,
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and heaven and nature sing

Verse 2
Joy to the world, the Savior reigns,
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

Verse 3
No more let sin and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as the curse is found.

Verse 4
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love, And the wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders of His love

Bridge
Our Savior, Emmanuel,
God with us, has come
Jesus, God in flesh,
Joy has come to the wo-rld

Outro
Let heaven and nature sing
Let heaven and nature sing
Let heaven and heaven and nature sing
