8.3.25 - Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy

Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - August 3, 2025

Pause to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we share in together as the body of Christ at Sunday morning worship Gatherings.

CALL TO WORSHIP

CongregationYour love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

— Based on Psalm 36

CONFESSION // ASSURANCE

Leader: Lord, we come before you to confess:
We have been way too focused on things that draw us away from you.

CongregationWe have been full of self-centered thoughts and actions.
We have sinned in more ways than we can count.
Only you fully know the depths of our rebellion.

Leader: In repentance, we turn back to you.
You always receive us back.
We humbly ask you to do it again.

CongregationAt the foot of the cross we see the cost of our sin.
At the foot of the cross we know the depths of your love.
Restore us in your fatherly care and limitless blessing.
Amen.

COMMITMENT

CongregationLord, you are worthy of our lives.
Every breath. Every thought. Every moment. Every action.
Nothing should be withheld from our devotion to you.

Though we often fail to give as we should,
accept our humble offering and multiply it as only you can,
to the glory of your Kingdom and the praise of your Name. Amen

BENEDICTION

Leader: May the fruit of the Lord’s love and grace take root in your heart and grow into the fullness of joy. Go now in the love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.

CongregationAnd also with you!

Sunday's music:

The Love of God
Doxology // New Thing Coming
To The One Who Is Seated On The Throne
For the Cross

This playlist is updated each week with songs from the previous Sunday's Gathering:

Song Lyrics:

The Love of God
Verse 1
The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen could ever tell
it goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair bowed down with care God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled and pardoned from his sin

Verse 2
When years of time shall pass away and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall
When men, who here refuse to pray on rocks and hills and mountains call
Godʼs love so sure, shall still endure all measureless and strong
Redeeming grace to Adamʼs race the saintsʼ and angelsʼ song

Chorus
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saintsʼ and angelsʼ song

Verse 3
Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky
Doxology // New Things Coming

For the Cross
Verse 1
The life you gave, Your body was broken
Your love poured out, You bled and You died for me
There on the cross,
You breathed Your last as you were crucified, You gave it all for us

Halle-lujah, what a Savior, Halle-lujah, what a friend
Halle-lujah, King forever, We thank You for the cross

Verse 2
There in the ground, Sealed in the darkness
Lifeless laid, The frame of the Father's son
In agony, He watched His only Son be sacrificed, He gave it all for us

Verse 3
But on that day, What seemed as the darkest hour
A violent hope, Broke through and shook the ground
And as You rose, The Light of all the world was magnified,
And You rose in victory

Chorus 2
Halle-lujah, it is finished, Halle-lujah, it is done
Halle-lujah, King forever, We thank You for the cross

Ending
Though our sins are scarlet, You have made us white as snow
