11.10.24 - Short North Gathering Liturgy

Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - November 10,
 2024

Carry Sunday with you into your week by pausing to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we shared in together as the body of Christ.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Lord, we pray the words of Psalm 89:15 back to you:

“Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship,  for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord.” Holy Spirit, we welcome your presence with us this morning! Fill this room with your power, and turn our eyes to Jesus, our Lord and King, both now and forever!

Amen

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

Leader: Lord, we confess the ways we have allowed our world to form and shape us more than the counter-cultural example of Jesus. We have allowed fear, mistrust, self-interest, and violence to cloud out wisdom, love, hope, unity, and faithful witness.

Congregation: Holy Spirit, shine a light on specific things you are calling us to repent of.

Leader: Lord Jesus, apart from your light, we too walk in deep darkness.

Congregation: Holy Spirit, bring to our minds a person we know who is walking in darkness. Show us how you desire to bring the light of Jesus to them. Use us to reflect his light.

Leader: Read with me the prophetic words of the prophet Isaiah, proclaimed into a land of deep darkness (much like our own), longing for hope:

Congregation: The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.

COMMITMENT

Leader: John 1:4 tells us that “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone."

Congregation: Jesus, Living Word, Light of the World, nothing else and no one else gives us life. Bring your light first to our hearts, that we may shine it out to every dark corner and illuminate the Way for those who walk in deep darkness. Amen

BENEDICTION

Leader: Hear these words of Psalm 67 as a blessing for the road–we raise our hands as an act of receiving and extending this blessing towards one another:

May God be gracious and merciful to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us with smiling favor that His way may be known throughout the earth, His saving power among all nations and people everywhere. Peace be with you.

Congregation: And also with you!
