Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - September 22
2024
Carry Sunday with you into your week by pausing to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we shared in together as the body of Christ.
CALL TO WORSHIP
Powerful is your arm!
Strong is your hand!
Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.
Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.
Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship,
for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
Psalm 89:13–15 (NLT)

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE
Leader: 2 Timothy chapter 3 begins “...understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.”
Congregation: Forgive us, Lord, for the ways this has described us, many times and in many ways. Be gracious to us, according to your great mercy. Be kind to us, according to your unfailing love. Cause goodness to replace and outshine every evil within us, by the blessing and power of your Spirit.

COMMITMENT
The end of Ephesians 2 tells us that the Holy Spirit is building the church into the temple of God here on earth. Meaning we, you and I, are one of the ways God's very real dwelling presence is shown to the world.
St. Teresa of Avila has this blessing that is a charge to live out our identity as part of Jesus' presence and body here on earth.
Hear this as our commission this morning…
Leader: Christ has no body on earth but yours.
Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassionately on this world.
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good.
Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours!

BENEDICTION
Leader: And now unto him who is able to keep us from falling and lift us from the dark valley of despair to the bright mountain of hope, from the midnight of desperation to the
daybreak of joy; to him be power and authority, for ever and ever. (Martin Luther King Jr.)
Congregation: And also with you!
