Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - July 7, 2024
Carry Sunday with you into your week by pausing to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we shared in together as the body of Christ.
CALL TO WORSHIP
Congregation: Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!
-Psalm 150:1-2, 6
-Psalm 150:1-2, 6
CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE
Leader: We have made a performance out of our religion, thinking that will be our source of honor.
Congregation: Yet you show yourself to those whose hearts are pure– those who trust in you.
Leader: We have aligned ourselves with the labels, politics, and rhetoric of our world, thinking that will bring us power.
Congregation: Yet you satisfy those who hunger and thirst for justice– those who trust in you.
Leader: We have clung to the rungs of the ladders of achievement, thinking that will be our security.
Congregation: Yet you first bless the last– those who trust in you.
Leader: We have strived to fill our heads with impressive thoughts, thinking that will be our gain.
Congregation: Yet you give the world to the humble– those who trust in you.
Leader: We have filled our homes and bank accounts with precious, fleeting treasures, thinking that will be our comfort and joy.
Congregation: Yet you give the Kingdom of the Heavens to the poor– those who trust in you. Empty us of everything that fails to lead us to life. Empty us of everything that isn’t Jesus! Amen.

BENEDICTION
Leader: Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Peace be with you.
Congregation: And also with you!
