4.28.24 - Short North Gathering Liturgy

Short North Sunday Gathering Liturgy - April 28, 2024

Carry Sunday into your week with you by continuing to reflect on the readings, prayers, and songs we shared in together as the body of Christ.

CALL TO CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

Leader: Your love captivates us. We have run after other loves that leave us empty. Yet You still call after us to abide in Your love. When we see what we truly are and see what You did through Jesus to rescue us from it, the only proper response is to worship you!

Congregation: In Your grace, guard our hearts from being so easily entranced by the fool’s gold glisten of other false gods; enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we may know the grace which has been given to us in Christ; and move our hearts to worship You in spirit and truth.

A litany by Jonathan Jackson.

COMMITMENT

Leader: Christ is the true vine, the source of all life and fulfillment.

Congregation:
Father, help us to abide in Him as branches.

Leader: In Christ, a branch that does not bear fruit is thrown away and a branch that does is pruned.

Congregation:
Father, prune us. Clip away at the things that would hinder our fruit bearing. Rid us of our idolatry.

Leader: Apart from Christ, the vine, we can do nothing.

Congregation:
Father, humble us with this fact and keep us from relying on our own power.

Leader: The father is glorified when he bears fruit through us.

Congregation:
Father, glorify yourself through us. By the Holy Spirit, empower our efforts and bring the kind of fruit that can only be explained by your power.

Leader: Jesus spoke these things so that His joy might be in us and our joy might be full.

Congregation:
Father, increase our joy! Help us to delight in You and You alone! Make our joy full as we bear fruit for your glory.

Based on John 15

BENEDICTION

Leader: As you go, trust not in your own wisdom or abilities, but heed the call of scripture to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, having faith that all things needed will be provided for you as you live for the glory of God.

Peace be with you!

Congregation: And also with you.
